See your site before it goes live

Available

Every club has a working web address from day one. Read the finished site, and show it to your committee, before you touch your own domain.

You already have a working address

Your club's site is at yourclub.swim.win from the moment the club exists. You do not have to set anything up, and you do not have to touch your own domain for it to work.

That is the address a preview is served on, and it is why you can read your finished website before your own web address points anywhere near SwimWin.

Getting a preview link

Website → Share a preview → Create a preview link. You need the manage site permission; an owner or club admin can give it to you.

Copy the link and send it to whoever needs to read it. They do not need a SwimWin account and they do not have to sign in — which is the point, because the people who approve a new website are usually a committee, and half of them have never logged in to anything.

What they will see

Your real site, at your real address, with every link working — the home page, your pages, news, the calendar, photographs. Not a screenshot and not a mock-up.

At the top of every page is a band saying the site is not live yet. It cannot be dismissed, on purpose: the whole risk of a good preview is that somebody mistakes it for the real thing and tells people you have launched.

Search engines are told not to index it, and not to follow the links on it, so a preview cannot quietly turn up in Google before you are ready.

It stops working when you go live

The link is not revoked and it does not time out — it simply stops being a preview, because once your site is live that same address serves the real site to everybody. If somebody reports that "the preview link is broken" the day after launch, that is what happened, and the answer is to send them the site.

Who can open it

Anybody with the link. It is a readable link, not a permission: there is no sign-in on the other end, so treat it the way you would treat a shared document link. It only ever opens your club's own published pages — never a draft, never anybody's personal details, and never another club.

If your club has been suspended, the link will not open it. That is deliberate.

Then point your domain

When the committee is happy, move your own web address across — that is Using your own domain, and it is the step that needs two hostnames rather than one.
