What it is
A site alert is a banner across the top of your club's site and every signed-in screen. One message, seen by everybody who opens anything.
It is the fastest way to say "the pool is shut this morning" — faster than email, and it reaches the parent who is already in the car park looking at the site.
Two severities
- Warning — amber. "Lane 4 is closed for maintenance."
- Danger — red. "The pool is closed today."
Both are loud and neither is dismissible by the reader, because an alert somebody can flick away is an alert that did not work.
It shows up even when the site is having a bad day
The alert rides along with the club lookup that every page makes, which means it reaches a visitor even on an error page. That is deliberate: the moment you most need to tell people something is the moment something is wrong.
What is on the wire today
Alerts render, and they can be set and cleared through the API. manage_club
or run_gate can post one — the same capability as working the desk, because the
person who knows the pool is shut is usually the person standing at it.
The staff screen for posting one is not built yet. Ask SwimWin support to set or clear an alert until it lands.
Alerts are not announcements
An alert is a banner on a screen somebody is already looking at. It does not email anybody and it does not push a notification. Email is coming separately.
Clear it
An alert stays up until it is cleared. Clear it the moment it stops being true — a stale banner about last Tuesday's closure trains everybody to stop reading the banner.
